Meditation

Leora is a qualified meditation teacher who conducts meditation sessions for individuals and groups.

As a marketing and communications specialist who has worked in the corporate sector for nearly 30 years, it would seem like an unlikely move for someone to add a meditation qualification to her offering. But that is what Leora Givoni decided would benefit her clients after discovering the life-changing effect it had on her.

“I love the power of words. They can change your day, someone else’s day or even create a movement. But when they go wrong, they can have devastating effects.”

So how does the use of words integrate with meditation?

How does creating pitches, internal and external communications strategies for companies connect with meditation you may ask?

The link is palpable.

When we communicate, we with bring with us many of our unconscious biases. We bring with us our state of mind. Our moods, our perceptions, all of which are influenced by the circumstances happening in our lives at that moment. Meditation is a tool that takes our minds from activity to silence. When practiced regularly, it reduces our fight-flight response. Our fight-flight response increases our heart rate and blood pressure, creates shallow, rapid breathing, increases the production of stress hormones, decreases the levels of anti-aging hormones, increases sweating, and weakens our immunity.

When we meditate, it allows our body to rest. This is when the body heals itself. It’s a purification process.

It acts as an antidote for all the fight-flight responses mentioned above, ranging from decreased heart rate to normalisation of blood pressure to reduced stress hormone.

After having worked for and consulted to some of Australia’s largest organisations and renowned SME’s and coached a range of CEO’s, leaders, managers, business owners and people transitioning in their careers, Leora noticed that the world of overwhelm was taking its toll on those she works with.

Having learnt to meditate in February 2012, Leora has retained her daily practice and realised it is one of the most powerful tools she has integrated into her life.

Understanding this, she went and studied meditation with the highly acclaimed team at the Chopra Center in Los Angeles.

Long gone are the days where meditation is seen as a voodoo concept for those on a spiritual journey. Today, meditation is seen as one of the most powerful high performance tools assisting in reducing stress and reactivity, increasing creativity and creating clarity of thought.

There is a reason why companies such as Apple, Google, Nike, Yahoo, and Mc Kinsey & Co are leading the way with on the job meditation programs.

According to the Chopra Website and a Mayo Clinic research paper “The practice of meditating helps to clear away debris of the mind that raises your stress levels and improves your emotional well-being by reducing negative emotions, increasing self-awareness, and building new skills to manage stress.”
